Legendary cues in 8 Ball Pool are the 20 top-tier Collection cues that come from Legendary Surprise Box pieces, and they are the only cues that combine bonus XP, free recharges and an entry fee payback when you lose. Miniclip publishes the odds for each one, and they range from 7.58% for the Phoenix down to 0.88% for the Archangel. Below is the full list with those odds, every official source of pieces we could confirm, and what to realistically expect before you start opening boxes.

For this post we read Miniclip's minigame odds page on miniclip.com, the 8 Ball Pool help center articles on Legendary payback, Surprise Boxes, Victory Boxes, the Pool Pass and the Pro Subscription, plus the community 8 Ball Pool Wiki on Fandom, all in November 2026.

What Makes a Cue Legendary

Collection cues come in three rarities, and each step up adds a perk. According to the community wiki, Rare cues earn bonus XP for every game, Epic cues add a free recharge cost, and Legendary cues add a third perk on top: an entry fee payback that returns some coins when you lose. The stats are strong too: the wiki lists the Archangel at 9 Force, 9 Aim, 8 Spin and 8 Time, which is why players treat this tier as the endgame of cue collecting.

There is also a quieter benefit. Cue Collection Power, the reward track that unlocks Bonus Stats for every cue you own, gives points for winning, buying and upgrading cues, and Miniclip says harder-to-get cues give more points. Legendary cues are among the hardest cues to obtain, so each one you add, and each upgrade you make to it, pushes your whole collection toward those Bonus Stats.

A word on terminology, because it confuses new players. "Legendary" here means the Collection cue rarity from Surprise Boxes. It is not the same as the league names on the leaderboard or the VIP levels in the shop, which Miniclip treats as separate systems. When people list "20/20 legendary" on a profile, they mean all 20 cues from the Legendary Box.

Every Legendary Cue and Its Published Odds

Miniclip lists the contents of the Legendary Box on its minigame information page. These are the published odds for each cue in that box as of November 2026, from most to least common.

The shape of that list explains the reputations. Sixteen cues sit between roughly 4% and 7.6%, so most of your early pieces will come from that group. The last four, the Firestorm, Valkyrie, Archon and Archangel, are each under 2%, and the Archangel is below 1%. The community wiki calls the Archangel the rarest drop from Legendary boxes and the cue many players consider the best, and it credits the Archon with a full 10 points of Force.

The same page also lists what else the box can hold: an 80% chance of a Free Spin, an 80% chance of a Scratcher, at least one of those two minigames in every box, and between 1,000 and 200,000 Pool Coins.

Where Legendary Cue Pieces Come From

There is no button that sells a specific Legendary cue for coins. Miniclip's buying guide covers Standard cues for coins and Country cues for Cash, and Legendary cues come from pieces instead. These are the official routes we could confirm.

  • Legendary Surprise Boxes. The main source. They appear in the in-game shop and on the official 8 Ball Pool web shop, which listed Legendary, Epic and Rare Surprise Box bundles when we checked.
  • Victory Boxes. A long shot, but free. Miniclip's odds page shows Pro and Elite Victory Boxes at many tables with a 0.125% chance of a cue piece from the Legendary Surprise Box, and Champion boxes at 0.075%.
  • Golden Spins. Miniclip lists "3 Legendary Boxes" as a Golden Spin prize at 0.50%.
  • Elite Pass. Miniclip's Pool Pass guide lists 3 Legendary Surprise Boxes among the Elite Pass perks, alongside faster Victory Box unlocks and bonus Pool Points.
  • Pro Subscription. Pro members get access to Pro-exclusive cues without collecting pieces from Legendary boxes, but Miniclip notes those cues go away when the subscription expires.

If you are trying to fund boxes without spending money, start with the free routes in our free coins guide, and keep in mind that Victory Box odds are small enough that they should be treated as a bonus, not a plan.

Duplicates, Upgrades and Maxed Cues

Opening Legendary boxes works a lot like opening packs of trading cards, and Miniclip uses that exact comparison. Early boxes tend to give you pieces of cues you do not own yet, but the more of the collection you hold, the more likely you are to see repeats.

Repeats are not wasted. Miniclip says repeated pieces count toward upgrading those cues, and upgrades raise stats and add Collection Power. Once a cue is fully upgraded, any further pieces for it are automatically converted to coins, so a maxed Phoenix still pays something when it turns up again.

This has a practical consequence for how you play your collection. Because upgrades raise stats and feed Collection Power, it can be worth upgrading a common Legendary cue you already own rather than waiting for a rare one. The community wiki notes that the Archangel takes four upgrade levels to max out, which is a lot of pieces for the rarest cue in the box. If you want a refresher on how those stats translate into results at the table, our best cue guide breaks down what each stat changes.

How the Legendary Payback Perk Works

The payback is the perk that makes Legendary cues valuable beyond their stats, and it has rules worth knowing before you count on it.

  • It only applies when you lose a match while using a Legendary cue.
  • The amount is a percentage of the entry fee, up to 6% per cue, and depends on how many Legendary cues you own.
  • Miniclip says the final percentage is random and depends on various factors, so it is not a fixed refund.
  • If you quit the game, you get nothing back.
  • It does not apply when you replay the same opponent during the weekly leaderboard period.

You can check your current payback rate in the Owned tab after selecting a Legendary cue, or open the "i" screen for full stats. Because the payback is a percentage of the entry fee, it matters most on expensive tables, where a few percent of a large entry fee adds up over a long session.

Which Legendary Cue to Equip Once You Own Several

Owning a few Legendary cues raises a new question: which one should actually be in your hand? The payback rules make this easier than it looks. Miniclip ties the payback to the number of Legendary cues you own and pays it when you lose while using any one of them. In other words, the collection drives the percentage, and the cue you equip only has to be Legendary for the perk to apply.

That frees you to choose purely on stats and feel. Open the "i" screen on each cue and compare the four numbers side by side, then match them to your weak spots. If you lose frames to missed long pots, pick the one with the best Aim. If you pot well but run out of position, favor Spin. If the shot clock rushes you, a higher Time stat can be worth more than an extra point of Force.

Two more habits help. First, compare the stats as they stand on your own account rather than by reputation, because upgrades raise them and a well-upgraded common Legendary may already beat the numbers on a rare one you just unlocked. Second, remember that Miniclip lets you change the active cue from the Owned tab or during a match, so you can keep a high-Force cue for breaks and power shots and switch back when the table needs finesse.

Setting Realistic Expectations Before You Open Boxes

The published odds make it easy to set a budget instead of chasing a single cue. A few principles hold up well.

  • Decide on breadth or depth. With 16 of the 20 cues sitting between roughly 4% and 7.6%, a full set of common Legendaries arrives long before the rare four. Upgrading those common cues gives you real stat gains and Collection Power along the way.
  • Do not budget for a specific rare cue. At 0.88%, the Archangel is listed at less than 1 in 100. A budget built around getting it by a certain date will usually disappoint.
  • Protect the account the cues live on. A Legendary collection is only as safe as the login behind it. Miniclip says guest progress cannot be recovered, so read our account recovery guide and link a login before you invest in boxes.
  • Ignore "free legendary" offers outside the game. Miniclip warns that support will never ask for your password or verification codes, and that offers of free items in exchange for information are a scam pattern.

Skipping the Box Grind

Collecting all 20 Legendary cues through boxes can take a very long time, which is why the store's 8 Ball Pool page also has account listings where sellers state how many Legendary cues an account holds, along with its coins, Cash and level. One thing to weigh first: Miniclip's terms and conditions strictly prohibit giving, selling or otherwise transferring an account or any virtual items to another person.
