Lords of the Fallen is built around an always-available online layer: seamless two-player co-op, invasions, and three shrines that only fill through multiplayer. If you take a modded character online, you are dropping a fully stocked Lampbearer into that system. This guide covers how the online features work today, what has to match between players, and how a modded save fits in.
What the listings say about online
Only one of the two save listings mentions online play at all: All Unlocks says its save can be used online without restrictions. Whichever save you have, co-op, invasions and the shrines are the game's own systems, and they treat a modded character like any other.
What you need before going online
- An online subscription where required. On PlayStation, online play needs PS Plus.
- Online Mode switched on in the Multiplayer settings. With it off, co-op, invasions, shrines and revenge are all disabled.
- Crossplay set the way you want. The game supports PC and console crossplay with a toggle in the same menu.
- The same mode as your partner. Since Version 2.5, Legacy (the standard experience) and Veteran are separate, and players must be on the same one to connect in co-op. Veteran is chosen when starting a new game and cannot be switched on later, so ask support which mode a delivered save uses if Veteran matters to you.

How co-op works after Version 2.0
Version 2.0, released on 18 April 2025, rebuilt co-op. Shared Progression lets both players save mainline progress, as long as they are on the same New Game cycle and have defeated a similar number of bosses, within one of each other. A standard co-op option without shared progression is still there. In all online sessions, both players can revive each other and collect full Vigor and loot.
To join a friend, visit any Vestige, open the Multiplayer menu and set a session password that you both enter; leave the password empty to use public matchmaking. A later update added guest privileges: in shared progression the guest can upgrade gear, rest, warp, plant Vestige Seeds and start boss fights, and in standard co-op the host chooses between full and limited privileges.
Guests also have limits worth knowing before you visit someone else's world with a modded character. Even with full privileges a guest cannot cleanse Beacons, enter Umbral without the host, use the shrines or offer Remembrances, or start Crucibles. Your own inventory comes with you, but the world, its progress and its shrines belong to the host.

Invasions and the shrines
PvP happens only through invasions. A session holds at most three players: the host, one co-op partner and one invader. The game tries to match similar levels and applies damage scaling when levels are far apart, so a high-level modded character will tend to meet other high-level players.
The shrines are the online economy. Severed Hands come from invasions and buy armour and tincts at the Shrine of Adyr; Pilfered Coins come from helping others and buy items at the Shrine of Orius; Plucked Eyeballs come from avenging fallen Lampbearers and buy items at the Shrine of the Putrid Mother. Shop tiers unlock through donations from the whole community, so your offerings still count even with a modded inventory.
| Feature | Requirement | With a modded save |
|---|---|---|
| Co-op (shared progression) | Same NG cycle, similar boss count, same Legacy or Veteran mode | Works as normal; partner sees your gear |
| Co-op (standard) | Online Mode on, matching mode | Host sets guest privileges |
| Invasions | Online Mode on | Level-based matching with damage scaling |
| Shrines | Online Mode on | Shrine gear already listed in both saves |
| Crossplay | Toggle in Multiplayer settings | Your choice; turn off to stay on one platform |
A sensible way to go online
Play your first sessions with Online Mode off while you settle the build and get used to the gear. When you switch it on, start with friends via a session password rather than public matchmaking. If you would rather not be invaded for a while, a Mirror of Protection temporarily blocks Crimson Rituals. And keep the conversation about Vigor totals out of public channels; our ban-risk post explains why.

The Free Friend's Pass
Version 2.0 also introduced a Free Friend's Pass, so friends who do not own the game can join your adventure across all platforms. If you want company for a modded victory lap, that is the cheapest way to get it.
If online play is the plan, the All Unlocks save is the listing that speaks to it directly, and the Lords of the Fallen hub shows both saves and the co-op service together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need PS Plus to play online on PS5?
Yes. Online multiplayer in Lords of the Fallen on PlayStation requires PS Plus, the same as most online console games.
Can I play co-op with a friend who is on Veteran mode?
Only if your save is also on Veteran. Since Version 2.5, Legacy and Veteran players cannot connect in co-op, and Veteran cannot be switched on for an existing save.
Will invaders see that my character is modded?
They see your character, your gear and how hard you hit, the same as with anyone. Rare gear and very high levels can stand out, which is why a low profile is wise.
How do I stop invasions for a while?
Play with Online Mode off, or use a Mirror of Protection, which temporarily protects you from Crimson Rituals. Several vendors at Skyrest Bridge sell it.
Does crossplay work with a modded save?
Crossplay is a game setting, not a save feature, so it works the same way. You can toggle it in the Multiplayer settings if you prefer to stay on one platform.
Do shrine donations still matter if I already have the gear?
Shop tiers are unlocked by the whole community's donations, so your offerings still help other players. You simply do not need to buy the shrine armour yourself.
