Dragon's Dogma 2 Vocations: How to Unlock All 10

An Arisen casting magick beside two vocation crests and the words Unlock All Vocations Fast and Early

Dragon's Dogma 2 has ten vocations, its name for classes. Four are available from character creation, two more open up at the Vocation Guild in Vernworth, and the last four are Arisen-only hybrids that you unlock by meeting the right person somewhere in the world. The Dark Arisen expansion that launched on 9 October 2026 did not add an eleventh, so this list is still complete.

This guide lists every vocation, exactly how each one unlocks, who can use it, and how ranking up with Discipline works. Unlock steps were checked against the Fextralife wiki and RPG Site in October 2026.

The four starting vocations

Fighter, Archer, Mage and Thief are the ones you can pick when you create your Arisen, and your main pawn can take any of them too. Fighter is the sword-and-shield tank, Archer handles range and weak points, Mage heals and buffs while doing modest damage, and Thief climbs onto big monsters and strips them with fast dagger strings. Switching between them costs nothing once you reach a Vocation Guild; the first one most players find is in Vernworth.

Warrior and Sorcerer

These two are the advanced vocations, and pawns can use them as well. At the Vernworth Vocation Guild, talk to Klaus to pick up the side quest Vocation Frustration. He wants an archistaff and a greatsword; you'll find both in chests inside Trevo Mine. Bring them back and both vocations open up.

Warrior trades the shield for a two-handed greatsword or hammer and hits harder than anything else in the game. Sorcerer carries the big area spells, the kind that take time to cast but can floor a dragon. Because pawns can use both, a Warrior or Sorcerer pawn is a common way to cover the damage your own vocation lacks.

The four hybrid vocations (Arisen only)

None of the hybrids can be given to a pawn, and none of them is sold at the guild until you have met the person who teaches it.

  • Mystic Spearhand. After you help fight off the dragon that attacks Melve, speak to Sigurd there, ask his name and ask about his way of fighting. If he isn't in Melve, Fextralife notes you can find him later in the coastal hut at Harve Village once that village is rebuilt.
  • Magick Archer. Head to the volcanic island in southern Battahl and look for a dwarf near Drabnir's Grotto, who starts Put a Spring in Thy Step. Once the quest wraps up, his wife Cliodhna turns out to be the Magick Archer maister and teaches you the vocation.
  • Trickster. Find the spirit of Luz inside the Reverent Shrine and speak to her. You can do this before the quest Flickering Shadows even starts.
  • Warfarer. Lamond, at the Geyser Hamlet south of the Volcanic Island Camp, wants three Newt Liqueurs. Higgs sells them in Bakbattahl for 5,000 gold each, though he only opens up after a little trouble with some guards outside his stand.

Once a vocation is unlocked, change into it at any Vocation Guild, and pick up the free starter gear the guild gives you for it.

Ranks, Discipline and maister skills

Each vocation ranks up separately, from 1 to a cap of 10. You raise rank by earning Discipline in that vocation, which comes in as you fight, alongside XP. Discipline is also what you spend at the guild on new weapon skills and augments. Augments are passive bonuses, and many of them keep working after you change vocation, which is one reason players rotate through several classes.

Every vocation also has a maister skill, a powerful technique you learn from that vocation's maister. A few examples: Sigurd teaches the Mystic Spearhand one, Cliodhna the Magick Archer one, Luz the Trickster one, Lamond the Warfarer one, Beren the Warrior one, and Taliesin, found in the Sacred Arbor, the Archer one.

Which vocation is best?

There's no single answer, but some picks are easy to recommend. Mystic Spearhand is the most forgiving all-rounder, mixing duospear melee with magick at any range. Warrior has the highest damage per hit if you can time it. Magick Archer is strong against bosses thanks to homing shots and the HP-draining Martyr's Bolt. Warfarer is the most rewarding late on: it can use any weapon and swap mid-fight, and it gets better the more vocations you have already ranked up.

Remember that the vocation you are in when you level up decides your stat growth, which our max level guide breaks down with the multiplier numbers.

How long does maxing every vocation take?

Ranking one vocation to 10 is a solid chunk of play; doing all ten, with every skill and augment bought, is a long-term project that most players never finish. Hybrids also arrive late, since three of them sit deep in Battahl or behind story events.

If you would rather have every vocation ready from the start, our Level 999 modded save comes with all vocations unlocked and at max level, plus every skill, unlimited Discipline and edited stats at level 999. Your main pawn is set to match your level and stats. The story still begins from the opening, so you play it in order with the full toolkit. It is $50 for PC or PS5 (PS5 needs PlayStation Plus on the account we apply it to). If you own the expansion, the Dark Arisen starter save does the same for Norgan, and both are listed on our Dragon's Dogma 2 page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many vocations are in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Ten: Fighter, Archer, Mage, Thief, Warrior, Sorcerer, Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster and Warfarer. The Dark Arisen expansion did not add any new ones.

How do I unlock Warfarer?

Bring three Newt Liqueurs to Lamond at the Geyser Hamlet, south of the Volcanic Island Camp. You can buy the liqueur from Higgs in Bakbattahl for 5,000 gold each.

Can pawns use hybrid vocations?

No. Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster and Warfarer are Arisen only. Pawns can use the four starting vocations plus Warrior and Sorcerer.

What is the max vocation rank?

Rank 10. You raise it by earning Discipline while using that vocation, and you spend Discipline at a Vocation Guild on skills and augments.

Why can't I find Sigurd in Melve?

He doesn't always stay there. If he is missing after the dragon attack, complete the Harve Village quest Scaly Invaders and look for him in the coastal hut once the village is rebuilt.

Did Dark Arisen add a new vocation?

No. The 2026 expansion adds the Norgan region, relic gear and new bosses, but the vocation list is unchanged. This is the Dragon's Dogma 2 expansion, not the 2013 Dark Arisen release of the first game.
