The best armor in Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is not sold in a shop. Almost all of the new gear comes from relics: Spoils you collect in Norgan and have appraised, which roll random levels, quality tiers and passive effects. That changes how you gear up, what "best" even means, and why your base-game armor stops cutting it so quickly. This guide covers where Norgan armor comes from, the passives that matter in the cold, the new rings and cloaks, the Norgan Fashion Set, and how to unlock tailoring so your gear looks the way you want.
Why your old armor struggles in Norgan
Norgan's enemies hit harder than most of the base game, and reviewers point out that new relic gear is the main way to keep up. On top of that, the weather is a stat check of its own. Blizzards apply Chilled, which drains your maximum stamina, so a character who could dodge and climb freely in Vermund suddenly runs dry mid-fight. Base-game armor has no answer to that. Relic armor can.
If you have not reached Norgan yet, our how to start Dark Arisen guide covers the trip north and the level you should be before you go.
How Norgan armor works
Armor pieces drop as Spoils from enemies, chests and gathering points across Norgan. You take them to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement, who appraises them for Rift Crystals. Each piece comes out with:
- A level that sets its defense.
- A quality tier: Base, Superior, Singular or Majestic.
- Passive effects. Weapons roll active skill upgrades; armor rolls passives instead.
Because the stats are random, there is no single "best chest piece" to look up. The best armor is whichever roll gives you the right passives at the highest level and tier you can find. Our relics and appraisal guide goes deeper on tiers, Ancient Spoils and what to appraise first.

The passives that matter most
Every build has its own wish list, but two passives stand out because they solve Norgan's biggest problem:
- Full Thermal (torso) prevents the Chilled status.
- Ice Elemental (greaves) also prevents Chilled and adds defense during whiteouts.
Until you roll one, you can manage the cold with Heatstones, which cure Chilled, or by eating a cooked meal at a camp or inn for temporary protection. The side quest Sticks and Stones unlocks the Heatstone crafting recipe.
| Gear type | Main source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Armor (head, body, legs) | Spoils appraised by Jiera | Random level, tier and passives; look for cold protection |
| Weapons and shields | Spoils appraised by Jiera | Weapons can roll up to four special skills |
| Rings | Monster drops, Norgan quests, Dwayne's Ducat shop, Aymond, Scarthe crafting | Ring of Virtue costs one Ducat from Dwayne |
| Cloaks | Quests and traders | Firebird Cloak comes from Aymond's gagana feather hunt |
| Norgan Fashion Set | Pre-order bonus or separate purchase | Collected from in-game storage |
| New looks | Hal's tailoring, after Reaching the Far Shore | Restyles relic gear and keeps its stats |
New rings and cloaks
The expansion adds a long list of new rings, and many come from places other than shops. Some drop from specific monsters, a few are quest rewards, some are crafted from Scarthes, and Dwayne runs a shop in Norgan that takes Norgan Ducats instead of gold. The Ring of Virtue is the one people search for most: Dwayne sells it for a single Ducat, and its description says its full potential unlocks if you are wearing it when you defeat the expansion's final boss. Put it on early and leave it on.
Aymond, a merchant you rescue in the Eastern Snowfield and send to the settlement, is worth helping too. Once he is there he starts a gagana feather hunt that leads to the Firebird Cloak.

The Norgan Fashion Set
The Norgan Fashion Set is a cosmetic bonus that came with pre-orders and is also sold separately. If you have it, it is waiting in your in-game storage rather than in your inventory, which is why many players think it is missing. It is about looks rather than power, so it pairs well with the tailoring system below.
Tailoring: the Dark Arisen transmog system
Dark Arisen adds a way to change how gear looks without losing its stats, which matters a lot when your best roll might be an ugly helmet. It unlocks through Reaching the Far Shore, a side quest from Jiera that becomes available once the Norgan story turns toward the Fallen Dragon.
- Talk to Jiera in the Norgandian Settlement to accept the quest, then speak to Ryatt about crossing Lake Norgan.
- Track down Fimbl, the ice dragon, and drive it back until it retreats to the lake.
- Finish it over Lake Norgan using the ballistas on the north shore.
- Rest at the settlement inn until the lake freezes, cross to the southern cavern and recover the treatise.
- Hand the treatise to Jiera, who sends you to Hal. Hal then offers tailoring.
Tailoring works on relic weapons and armor from Norgan. You can copy the look of any weapon or armor you own or have owned, including base-game gear, and the item you copy from is not consumed. Each change costs gold, copying a look you already own is 80% cheaper, and you can revert later. Weapons, shields, helmets, chest and leg armor are supported; masks and glasses keep their original look.

Skip the gear grind
Farming a full set with the right passives at Majestic quality takes a lot of appraisals and a lot of luck. If you want to explore Norgan already dressed for it, our Dark Arisen modded starter save includes all weapons, armor, shields, cloaks and rings, Norgan gear from the DLC, appraised relics at Majestic quality with four special skills, plus the full Norgan map revealed and every Norgan portcrystal active. It starts at the beginning of the DLC with the story intact, works on PC and PS5 only, and needs the expansion on your own account. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best armor in Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen?
There is no fixed best set, because Norgan armor comes from relics with random stats. Aim for Majestic or Singular pieces at a high level, and prioritise passives like Full Thermal or Ice Elemental that stop the Chilled status.
Can you buy new armor in Norgan?
New Norgan armor comes mainly from appraising Spoils with Jiera rather than from shop stock. Traders do sell some items, and Dwayne's shop takes Norgan Ducats for several new rings.
Where do I get the Norgan Fashion Set?
It was a pre-order bonus and is also sold separately. Once owned, it appears in your in-game storage, not in your pack.
How do you unlock transmog in Dark Arisen?
Complete Jiera's side quest Reaching the Far Shore, which involves defeating Fimbl and recovering a treatise. Hand it over and Hal starts offering tailoring at the settlement.
Can I change the look of base-game armor?
Not directly. Only Norgan relic gear can be restyled, but you can copy the appearance of base-game armor onto a relic piece and keep the relic's stats.
How do you get the Ring of Virtue?
Buy it from Dwayne in Norgan for one Norgan Ducat. Its description says it reaches full potential if you wear it while defeating the expansion's final boss.
